Winter in South Tyrol – snow-covered nature, indulgence, and moments of tranquility

Experience the crisp winter air in South Tyrol in a whole new way. The surrounding ski areas offer ideal conditions for winter sports enthusiasts and snow lovers. Nearby, the family-friendly Schwemmalm ski area in the Ulten Valley and sunny Meran 2000 attract visitors with perfectly groomed slopes and magnificent panoramic views.

Our local mountain, the Vigiljoch, also invites you to enjoy winter hikes and relaxing hours in the snow – without any hustle and bustle, but with plenty of nature.

A special highlight during the Advent season are the Christmas markets in Lana, Merano, and Bolzano, which enchant visitors with regional handicrafts, festive music, and culinary specialties.

Those who want to do something good for their body and soul will find peace and relaxation in the stylish thermal baths of Merano.
And for nature lovers, we also offer guided winter hikes on request – a very special experience in the snow-covered South Tyrolean mountains.

Tips & recommendations for your vacation stay

You definitely shouldn't miss this!

Snowshoeing Monte S.Vigilio/Vigiljoch

In the car-free hiking area of Vigiljoch, you can enjoy winter in wonderful peace and close to nature – why not try snowshoeing for a change? Snowshoes make it particularly easy to trudge through the snow-covered landscape. Now considered sports equipment, snowshoes distribute weight over a larger area, ensuring that your feet sink less into the snow.

The Sterntaler Christmas Market in Lana

As always, the pre-Christmas atmosphere in Lana is particularly cozy: the pedestrian zone is decorated with new stars, the atmosphere is relaxed and free of crowds, and the 20 Christmas stalls are festively decorated. The range of products on offer is astonishing, inspiring, and enjoyable—with all the senses. With a glass of steaming mulled wine or Sterntaler drink, the cold disappears from your limbs and your stomach stops growling as you enjoy farmer’s flatbread, goulash soup, potato noodles, and many other delicacies. Finding the perfect Christmas gift is not difficult here, given the variety of local handicrafts made from wool and felt, wax and glass, wood and plastic. Local bands provide musical entertainment.
